On one other weekend when Gf arrived, we went to Key West, a 4 hour drive from Plantation. Key West is at the end of the Floriday Keys. To get there, we have a scenic drive past a chain of islands linked by bridges, so you have the sea on both sides!
We started the journey at 11AM after breakfast at Crowne Plaza.
Another beautiful day, blue skies...
Can see the swamps... and then stopped by because finally we see the sea!
There's a lot of places to stop by, and snap pics. People also come for bird-watching. And the water is absolutely crystal clear.
Yeah, I miss that car :)
Drive, drive, drive~~ Midway through, we stopped by a must-see place: Bahia Honda State Park. Of coz, pay entrance fee, a few dollars...
Why must see? Because as you drive along the highway/bridge, you'll notice that there is an abandoned bridge running in parallel. This is the old Bahia Honda Bridge...
To get a closer look, hike up this path...
Mini 'theatre'
The closest view of the old broken bridge...
The old and new...
Ok, hike back to the car, late already.... but suddenly heard some noise in the bushes! siggg.. could it be snake??? :-S Nope.. it's a iguana... phew~~ terkejut
From Bahia Honda, it's a short while more before we reached the town of Key West. It's an old classical town...
The significance of it is this: the Southern-most point of USA, 90 miles to Cuba :D
Drive and walk around...
Souvenier shops....
an open square..
Oh no, getting late already. There's still one place I have to go. The Zero Mile sign. Last time I came here couldn't find it. Ask around, drive, search, sigh still can't find it. But then, jz when wana give up...
Hahha.. found it! This signboard indicates the start and end of the US1 highway. There is a countdown when you drive along. Mile 200, Mile 199... Mile 2, 1, then finally this is the Mile 0. :D Sigg
Really late dy! Drive back... This shot was taken at 8.30PM.. thankfully it's summer.. still bright. But the journey takes 4 hours... reach back hotel midnite! :'( Tmr had to work some more. Key West by itself isn't too much of an outstanding attraction, but the scenic drive through the Florida Keys, is really one to remember. The only problem is that the drive back is boring dy! :P
