"Macross Frontier: Bandai's YF-29, now with Super Parts!"

Remember some time ago I scoffed at Bandai's YF-29 design and wasn't too keen on getting it? Now it's sold out everywhere and the prices on ebay have skyrocketed to US500 each!!! The fighter plane does play a reasonable part in the final battle with Brera's VF-27 in Macross F: Wings of Goodbye. And now Bandai has released the compulsory super parts. I pulled some pics from gamu-toys:

"Stress-relieving post!"

After a very exhausting week, here's a stress-relieving post!

1) Macross

DSC_0879 (Large)

Starting with my current display piece, Macross Quarter! Seldom transform it due to the very stuff joints... but I like to leave it in Attack mode, holding his massive cannon :D

I thought it might be fun to see how far we've gone with Macross along the road:

Macross Frontier collection!

... and Yamato's side of the story: From Macross Zero, DYRL and Macross Plus! Macross collection is very very expensive (if you do a quick math, each one roughly costs RM600-700), but it gives the most satisfaction :P

2) Star Wars

DSC_0893 (Large)

And my favourite trio from Star Wars Clone Wars Season 3! The season finale was aired last week, overall some really nice episodes and some really terrible ones. But it's nice to see Ashoka maturing into a fine Jedi, unlike the annoying character we saw earlier. Anakin has also become much more reserved as the war drags on, and as we see from his uniform above, reflects his character in Episode 3.

Also, I've decided not to buy by carton for the Vintage collection. This means I'm very unlikely to complete the collection... but hey, money is a premium, and I don't really need updates to characters which I already have. Here are a few managed to grab from TRU from time to time:

and more random Clone Wars figures

3) Souveniours

DSC_0905 (Large)

First, from the Champions League trophy tour... the Carlsberg ladies took these Polaroid pictures for everyone... and I took two :P

And a nice little souvenior from Zoe who came back from Japan business trip, prior to nuclear leak, of course.

"DX Chogokin YF-29 pics!"

Fighter:
TOY-RBT-1404_02

Gerwalk:
TOY-RBT-1404_03

Battroid
TOY-RBT-1404_01

Fighter is a bit weird.. too sleek for my liking. The inverted wings ala VF-19 doesn't really work out here.. and I wonder how will the toy be able to support the entire back piece in Gerwalk mode.. but Battroid is just so wicked!! Damn tempting (again)!

"Celebrating Macross Frontier: False Diva!"

Recently, the new Macross Frontier movie, titled the False Diva, was released. To commemorate watching it the 2nd time (without subtitles!), I took out these 3 heroes to recreate the final battle~~

DSC_0904_G (Custom)
Ozma, Alto, Brera. The movie was pretty much so-so, but the final action sequence, with these 3 guys defending Sheryl and Ranka was memorable!

DSC_0876_G (Large)
The original Macross F TV series is still the best, so I brought out the gang again~~

DSC_0889_G (Large)
The 1/72 scale VF-25F Super Messiah. Now permanently in Fighter mode, because I super-glued all the parts so that they won't fall off :P

DSC_0874_G (Custom)
Macross F figures. I wish they came out with more of these. Although they are small, but at least it wont burn my wallet!

DSC_0896_G (Custom)
My fav: Sheryl and Ranka combine :D

DSC_0936_G (Large)
Defiant. Armored Ozma still can transform to Battroid mode despite breaking a crucial part! BUT... if you just touch it, everything collapses, the wing, the armor pack, gosh... what a mess :-S

"Should I have spoken out?"

Some time back, I saw someone posted in a forum, wanting to sell his Macross VF-1A Hikaru custom. He threw in a display stand and put the price as RM400. It was a fairly good price...unless you knew that this VF-1A release had a big problem, which was the fragile shoulder hinge.

On my VF-1A, the shoulder hinge had hairline fractures already and it would only be a matter of time before it broke. When I saw this person trying to sell his off for cheap, I wanted to reply, "FYI, this is the version that has the shoulder hinge problem". But I hesitated.

A few days ago, I read the forum again; someone had already bought the VF-1A from this guy and reported that the shoulder had cracks. And he isn't able to contact the seller. On surface, it does seem like the seller knew about this problem and wanted to sell it off quickly and cheaply (or maybe not).. but damn... I really felt guilty that I didn't choose to speak up then.

What would you have done?

"VF-25S Armored .... broken!!"

Holy crap, my VF-25S Armored Ozma broke last night when I tried to transform it!

IMG_9166_m (Small)

Unfortunately the damage is at a critical point of transformation, so super-glue-ing would not help much :'( Sigh... Bandai oh Bandai... why are you doing this; designing such crap and charging exorbitant prices for it. Now this valk will probably remain in Fighter mode only :(

"Bandai announces VB-6 Koenig Monster!"

Holy cow, Bandai is making the VB-6 Koenig Monster from Macross Frontier! The VB-6 is a heavy artillery weapon, most recognizable in Gerwalk mode, with its four massive turret cannons. Please, take my money!!

"RIP Carl Macek"

From Robotech.com:

Carl Macek (1951-2010)
Robotech's original producer Carl Macek passes away on Saturday, April 17th.
Author: Tommy Yune

"Carl F. Macek passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010 of a heart attack.

From his early days at California State University Fullerton, where he served as a librarian of popular culture, Carl was set on a course to make his mark on the anime industry in the United States. Fans know him as the producer who originally weaved together the Robotech saga out of separate anime series when faced with broadcast syndication hurdles in 1985. The result was a science fiction phenomenon that launched popular lines of novels, comics, videos, toys, and other memorabilia that continue to be coveted collectibles to this day. Sure, Robotech had its ups and downs over the years, but Carl relished its longevity and resurgence.

Carl later went on to found Streamline Pictures, which was known for releasing major anime titles such as Akira and Vampire Hunter D. He was also directly involved in the first English adaptations of many of Hayao Miyazake's classics such as Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro, My Neighbor Totoro. Recently, Carl had worked on the adaptation of many of the episodes of the hit anime series Bleach. Outside of anime, Carl had also written many books, from The Art of Heavy Metal to the novel War Eagles, an epic adventure which he also adapted into a screenplay for a film in development.

Carl was delighted to get involved again in the Robotech universe for its 25th anniversary, not to mention the widespread anticipation over a live action movie on the horizon.

Carl Macek spent the past Saturday, April 17th as he often did, enjoying life to its fullest at a concert with his beloved wife Svea. Then a massive heart attack took him away from all of us. It was a bitter pill to swallow. This did not seem fair. He was still so full of creative energy. However, with the amazing legacy of his work, Carl has left us much to remember him by, and in this way, he has truly become immortal."

Thanks for bringing Robotech to us, Carl. RIP.

"Macross Collection Part 2!"

Continuing from Part 1 and Part 3, here comes Part 2 which consists of the core characters from the Macross saga!

IMG_8230 (Medium)
IMG_8232 (Medium)

Lynn Minmei! ^_^

IMG_8245 (Medium)

Nekki Basara (Macross 7)!

IMG_8243 (Medium)

and can now pose him with Mylene Jenius~~

IMG_8249 (Medium)

Misa Hayase, First Officer of the SDF-1

IMG_8254 (Medium)

with Hikaru Ichijo... when we were first watching the original Macross series back in the 80s, always wondered whether Hikaru would end up her or with Minmei :P

IMG_8256 (Medium)

Big brother Roy Focker! Hikaru's senpai~~

IMG_8260 (Medium)

He can 'wear' his helmet too~~

IMG_8274 (Medium)

size comparison... umm.. I think CM's took the term "Big Brother" a bit too literally!

IMG_8271 (Medium)

Sara Nome (Macross Zero)! This is one weirdly-posed figure... it's like she's stretching or something. The unfortunate effect is that the figure seems to be bending sideways :-S

IMG_8267 (Medium)

Can pose her with her sister, Mao Nome~~

Uncle was selling this last set at RM35 per figure, higher than the previous 2 sets. But then again, this collection has been out of stock for years, dunno how else to get :-S
