"Try-out-new-stuff weekend!"

Starting off with Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks at Queensbay Mall. I saw FoongLin posted this at her blog and it looked absolutely yummy!

So we ordered the Handmade Oyster Mee Sua (RM6) and the Ricebox set (RM9, with drink). Gosh, the mee sua was superb! The sauce is thick, with chunks of chicken and a sprinkle of parsley made it really fragrant. Umm... but why so little?? Haha, that just makes you want more :P Ricebox is pretty ok. The crispy chicken is nice, and you wouldn't guess that the best part of it was the cold tofu at the side! On a side note, the 'shop' is extremely small and can only cater a max of 7-8 person :-S Looks more like for take-aways ;)

Next day we went to Hai Nan restaurant at Sg Nibong, beside Kayu Nasi Kandar. This is a Nyonya and Hainanese restaurant. Why this place? Well, it gives 10% off for Motorola workers!

Drinks, kangkung, Curry tumis ikan (we chose pari) and curry Kapitan.

The kangkung is ok, but I don't like it when they cook it sweet. Prefer it spicy.. Curry tumis ikan is absolutely wonderful. In fact it tastes more like a cross between asam and Thai food! The pari is also fresh and in generous amount. The curry Kapitan is a mixed feeling: the gravy was as good as any top Nyonya place, but the chicken wasn't fresh, so......

Anyway, we do get 10% off rite, so it should be fine...? Man, the bill came to RM46.80! Curry tumis ikan was a whopping Rm24! Haha.. I shouldn't be surprised; the portion was huge!

Ok, maybe time to lay-off these restaurants for awhile...... :P

Hey leopard. Hai Nan restaurant is one of my favourite shop. I love their pari as well. Their kangkung is ok. But those really good kangkung sambal belacan definitely will have to be from those nyonya restaurants in M'cca! I like the Oyster Mee Sua too... (just tried it last week). But I've heard that some people are put off by the XXL oysters.

Btw, looks like you are "bingeing" yourself on food ever since you came back :p. It must have been real hard on you back there in US. Haha..

Hey nst! I absolutely agree on the kangkung part: Can't beat our Malaccan style :P

The oysters are a bit too raw for me. But the overall taste of the mee sua is what really appeals to me ;)

Yeah, I'm going all out enjoying our local food... Feels so good to be back: watch out for more! P.S. If got any nice plan, recommend sikit :P
