After Calico, we left to continue our journey to Vegas, but again, we take a detour to our next destination: Hoover Dam, to fill up the day time. It wasn't particularly early anymore, almost 4-5pm, so we have 2 hours to wrap it up.
The landscape gets even more beautiful as we move closer and deeper into the desert. Mountains, hills and finally even sand!
It took a fairly long 3 hours to reach there, what with the extreme heat and all. Once we saw Lake Mead, we're almost there! Parked our car and bought a USD11 ticket to see the 'insides' of the dam....
Like all dams, Hoover Dam is meant to utilize the destructive force of the Colorado River to generate electricity. So you can expect these massive machinery. An elevator took us to the *base* of the dam, under tonnes of rock. I could feel the constant pain in my head due to the intense pressure!
The trip was over fast enough, so we were left to wander ourselves outside.
Welcome to Hoover Dam!
Again if this place looks familiar, you're right: Transformers was filmed here! This is where they kept Megatron :D
The visitor complex.
Hoover Dam was not only an engineering marvel, but also an art deco. Check out these statues...
The dam is built across two states: Nevada and Arizona.
One tower on each side... can see the time difference between these two states.
Vehicles can travel along the highway on the dam...
Notice the river has created two different layers on the rocks.
The heat was amazing. Dehydrated. After about 2 hours, we left the place. Maybe Vegas at night would be cooler than the unforgiving weather we've slogged through this day....
Next: Las Vegas (can you believe we're still in Day 2?!)
