"Canton-i @ Queensbay Mall"

The first time we went to Canton-i, the impression was that, the food is nice, but small portion and very expensive for dishes which you can typically get at hawker stalls. They had a revised menu a couple of months ago, so we went there to try again (and there's 10% discount for Modolala also).

IMG_9173 (Small)
This is some char siew stuff... tastes ok...

IMG_9176 (Small)
Wantan mee with pork ribs. The wantan mee is still our favourite dish as the noodles is nicely hard and has that "crunchy" feel! Also, the portion seems to have gotten bigger...

IMG_9182 (Small)
Comes with a nice small bowl of soup

IMG_9179 (Small)
To fill up our stomach we usually order another rice set. The roasted pork and char siew is definitely superb!

Then recently we went there again, aside from the usual orders, we added on:

IMG_9382 (Small)
Fu chok yee mai with quaill egg. Nice.

IMG_9386 (Small)
Lor mai kai. Nice, stuffed with ingredients..

IMG_9383 (Small)
The jumbo chinese sausage was nice, the taufu also.. so soft! Yumm~~

Unfortunately the cashier said, "Modo 10% discount ended in June." Oh no... had to pay the full price, which went upwards to about RM50. Hmm, maybe temporary ban this place :P

"Roti benggali"

Recently I always buy roti benggali spread with planta and kaya for breakfast from the Roti Man (the old-style Indian chap riding a motorbike with the carriage behind for his bread, ringing the bell when he arrives!)

IMG_9401 (Small)

This costs RM3 and it's Super Delicious! More recommended than going for Super Expensive Pappa Rich :P

"Family food fest in Penang!"

I wanted to post this earlier, but anyways, family decided to come up to Penang during the Wesak Day holidays for food fest! After having dim sum for breakfast, we drove up to Kek Lok Si. They were reluctant at first, probably thinking of the old way which we always did (i.e. take the long stairs up)! But a short drive up, and...

New shade for Kuan Yin. The construction at the side means it's still hard to get a nice clear shot

That Saturday was blazing hot with all the haze and what not... so we went into hiding at home after awhile!

We skipped lunch and bought Pasembur and rojak for tea :D

And later went to QB for dinner...

Dragon-i might seem like a weird choice for a food fest in Penang, but a nice dinner is in order. And since there were four of us, we can get to order many many dishes!

Stuffed from all the food, more was to come the next day for breakfast/lunch at Kheng Pin cafe at Penang road!

The famous Loh bak

IMG_9241 (Small)
Char kuey teow with duck egg! Tastes more egg-y :P

IMG_9238 (Small)
There's also a wan tan mee stall there, and I think it's really nice.. very old school

Hokkien mee

We had to order 2nd round as not enough!

When's the next round? :D

"Gastroscopy!"

On Monday, had light breakfast at 10AM while watching replay of World Cup final. Then felt full for the whole day. (No, not because upset that Holland lost!) Later at 4PM, ate some noodles, and trouble began :D At night stomach was bloated, woke up at 2AM, vomitted, then later diarrhea. It sounds like typical food poisoning, but then the other symptoms which I had for some time now made me worried (i.e. loss of appetite, abdominal pain, chest tightness).

Tuesday morning felt much better dy, but went to see the doctor anyways. "Ah, these are symtoms of gastritis. We need to get you admitted and run a series of tests. ECG, Ultra-sound, and Gastroscopy." Oh dear... Gastroscopy is basically putting a tube from your mouth to view the stomach wall @_@

Here's an animation of how it is carried out:

They put you on sedatives to help you relax. I can't remember anything from the whole procedure, except at certain stage, I was practically chocking upon feeling the tube at the back of my throat. Then unconscious for the next couple of hours!

Later, doctor came back with the results, confirmed is gastritis. He wants to keep me in for another day to observe if the medicine is effective. Hehe.. although I'm officially "admitted", but most of the time, I'm at home on ward leave! Next trip to hospital is at 2PM...

"Azuma Japanese Restaurant @ Queensbay Mall"

A couple of weeks ago, decided to try Azuma, a japanese restaurant in QB. It's my 3rd time there; both earlier visits were sponsored by Modolala ;) The thing about this place is that it is on the higher-end. They launched a new menu recently and they had some set meal promo. Lets see....

IMG_9345 (Small)
Green tea. Nice. Very thick. RM1 each

IMG_9342 (Small)
We were there very early around 6-ish PM, so get to sit in one of the best tables: with view of the Penang bridge and Pulau Jerejak :D

IMG_9344 (Small)
Wine deco

IMG_9348 (Small)
Taru Taru Tori Katsu (chicken). RM15. Remarkably small portion! It's nice though, especially the mayonese sauce.

IMG_9353 (Small)
The salmon steak set. Supposed to be RM19.90, but we upgraded to garlic fried rice (add RM3). Ever since Sakae Sushi removed all Teppanyaki stuff from their menu, we've been lacking our dose of garlic fried rice :(

IMG_9351 (Small)
Nice.

IMG_9352 (Small)
Nice.

IMG_9357 (Small)
Kimuchi Ramen (RM13.50). Nice, but incredibly small portion! So, basically that's the main complain about this place. The price is on the premium side and yet the portion is really small. After eating, still not full. Luckily there's a 10% discount for Modo staff, final bill is RM54.10.

IMG_9361 (Small)
They gave a free green tea ice cream at the end... Nice.

Come back again? Ermm.... I think wait for Modo to sponsor again la! I even fill up the feedback form, "Nice but the portion is too small"! :P
